Gearing up for the new "Who"

So, I'm dying to know -- what do YOU think of the impending arrival of the new "Doctor Who?" Starring that fellow with the amazingly agile hair aka Matt Smith and that saucy redhead I know nothing but I'm sure she's good aka Karen Gillan, the new series will make its UK debut on April 3 (thanks for catching my typo, folks!) followed immediately by its illegal debut on dodgy servers everywhere...then followed on April 17 with its BBC America debut. Phew, that was a long, poorly constructed sentence.

I gotta say, I'm pretty damn excited about the upcoming season, which is something I never thought I would say given my sadness over David Tennant's departure and my misgivings about Steven Moffat. But seriously, how could anyone -- even cranky old me -- watch these previews and not be at least mildly geeked?

Please note: there be casting spoilers ahoy in these trailers, so if you want to pure as the driven "Who" snow, it'd be best to avoid them.

I mean, wow, the monsters look amazing; the energy level is ramped up to 11; Smith and Gillan seem to have a nice bouncy chemistry going and Smith himself looks like he's going to be the twitchiest, oddest Doctor of them all...and I mean that as a good thing. With my albeit limited Old Who knowledge, the following statement could be totally wrong, but he reminds me a bit of Tom Baker, which should make for some good squirrelly fun. Just from those previews, the show itself definitely has a new feel but again, I mean this as a good thing because it still feels very much connected to the best of the Davies era.

But enough yammering from me -- tell me what you think!

Matt himself is modelling Eleven on Two as much as anyone...

I'm looking forward to the new series with trepidation and anticipation in equal measures.

Oh, and by the way it's back April THIRD not FOURTH!

First - Welcome back - I'm so excited to start reading your witty, on-the-nose postings again.

Second - I am beyond pumped for this new series. I loved Tennant's Doctor, but before that I loved Eccleston so I have great confidence in the show-runners' abilities to pull out another great transition. The previews look very promising especially with all that running :o)

I'm unbelievably excited as Steven Moffat wrote two of my favorite eps: The Girl In The Fireplace and Blink. I like the flavor and energy of the new trailers, but I think I'm one of the few viewers who are definitely ready for the change. Not to say I wasn't madly drooly for David Tennant. :)

I can't wait!! This looks fantastic, I loved Ten, but I loved Nine too, so I'm willing to give 11 a chance, and what I've seen so far seems to indicate I won't be dissapointed. Can it be April 4th already?

No you're not. I can name a good few fans who had had enough of Emo!Ten and RTD long before S4 was over...

Just so you know, it's April 3rd, not the 4th. =)

And I am SO excited for this new series. Not only is Steven Moffat a bloody Scottish genius, but when I saw the very first pictures of Matt Smith in costume, it was love at first sight. That doofy grin! The tweed! The bowtie! Oh, be still my heart.

The problem with Matt Smith for me is his catch phrase "Gerniomo" (excuse the spelling), it's already annoying :-/ I just can't see how he can become any less annoying, but you never know, so I'll just wait and see.

Speaking of dodgy servers, can anyone point me to an online version of "The End of Time"? For some insane version, it is available for purchase on DVD on Amazon, but isn't available on Netflix. :-(

By the way, if you are in the SF Bay Area, the first season 5 ep will be shown in its entirety at Wonder-Con on April 3.

I so want it to be good. My closet optimist is...tentatively optimistic. :) Plus, were those the evil angel statues from Blink in the first trailer?

Those things kept me up nights. Shudder.

Agreed that as a catch phrase, "Geronimo" will get on my nerves.

I am nervous about the return of River Song, and about the interplay between Eleven and the new companion, and about Moffat trotting out the weeping angels again.

However, I feel 80% confident that Moffat and Smith will pull something awesome out of a hat, and that we'll all be massive Eleven fangirls/guys soon enough.

For *ahem* illicit End of Time viewing, I always find Sidereel a good links aggregator for beloved tv shows.

I am so very unsure of Matt but after those ads I am getting excited about it. Especially when you hear at the end of the second ad "Trust Me. I'm The Doctor."

OK, first: Ten wasn't EMO!!!!!
And now, yeah Moffat wrote some of my favs too (The empty cheld especially) - but still, I feel my heart breaking in a thousand pieces, if I imagine not seeing tennant as the Doctor again. And on the other hand I'm also looking forward the new series - trailers look good and all. But still...

Welcome back!

I saw an earlier trailer on YouTube and a lot of people didn't like the idea of the Doctor holding a gun. I can't wait to see what that is all about.

I am so looking forward to new Who! I think Smith is growing on me, just from the preview, but the Geronimo catch-phrase thing is not working for me at all. Surely there will be something better to come.

I am actually excited about the upcoming series, which believe me, I wasn't expecting to be. The previews are selling me. But I do agree about the catch phrase. I was over it the moment it came out of his mouth when he regenerated.

I read online that Geronimo isn't going to be his new catch-phrase. He only says it once or twice during the whole season, but it made it into the previews. So we can all breath easier.

No, wait... I just saw the preview in 3D while waiting for a 3D Alice... Yeah, I agree.
