Here be dragons...ridden by Barbara Walters!

I really enjoyed watching this clip of the new "View" co-host grappling with the age-old question of whether or not the Earth is flat. Yup, the question that seemed pretty firmly answered when we took all those pictures from space.



It's nice when the un-nerdy women make us look even smarter than we are, isn't it?

Wow.

Watching something that dumb gives me such a tension headache, especially the stuff she said about evolution. As an anthropologist, I have to point out that you can't believe in evolution because it's not a faith-based system.

Hm? Seems to me you can believe in evolution the way you can believe in gravity or the blue color of the sky. Specialized fields like anthropology often use words in a different sense than the rest of the world. Take math, where 'closed' means a space that contains all of its boundary points. Or medicine, where the 'arm' is the thing between your elbow and your shoulder and the 'leg' is the thing between your knee and your foot.
