"Mr. Darcy, stop nibbling on my ear...no, really."

Sure, some commenters over at IO9 seemed rather appalled by this idea, but I gotta say, I think Seth Grahame-Smith's new book "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" sounds hilariously fantastic. Yes, it's just what it sounds like: a new version of "Pride and Prejudice"...with the ravenous undead. Here's the synopsis:

As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton—and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers—and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead.

Check out the cover:

I love how the cover font is pure Penguin. Beautiful. If you want to pick up your own copy, it's available from Quirk Books.

So what other literary works do you think would benefit from a little zombie-fying?

Certainly I think the U.S. Constitution would be a bit more of a nail-biter...

It's things like this that make me proud to be a human being.

Not that it's great literature, but how about Laura Ingalls, "Little House in the Cemetery"... You just can't top the undead Nellie Olson...

or for a classic, "Gatsby's back!" - it was the jazz age... two words: zombies and the Charleston...

I hated Pride and Prejudice, so zombies sounds like a major improvement!

I'm totally looking forward to Tender is the Night of the Living Dead and Travels with Zombies. The Zombie Secret is a self-help book I might be able to get behind.
