News of the Day -- Monday, June 9

+ Whatever else you do today, you have to read this great article on William Shatner from MSNBC. It's alternately hilarious and endearing.

+ A fancy-pants new version of the iPhone is being announced today. Seriously, that thing is the worst example of me wanting something that I don't need just because it's really, really pretty. Kind of like how I sometimes want Justin Timberlake.

+ An interesting look at Al Franken's run for the U.S. Senate. I find it funny that Minnesota, a state that elected Jesse Ventura as its governor, is having trouble taking Franken seriously.

+ And finally, will someone please talk me down from my new, deep-rooted fear that President Roslin's not going to make it to the second half of BSG's season in '09? Must remember...fictional characters...not real....ok, that totally doesn't work.

Rosilin will make it!!! Mary McDonnell is too famous to be offed before the season actually ends. :)

That's a good point. I'm going to cling to that hope. You know, I don't even mind if Roslin doesn't make it to Earth -- or the whole fleet doesn't make it to Earth -- I just want her character around for a while longer.

Thanks for making me feel better! :)

Do you have a source on the season finishing in January '09? Because I've heard the rumor, but I can't find anything concrete, and I'm FREAKING RIGHT OUT.

Hlp, plz?

One of the previews I saw for next week said something like "don't miss the last new episode until 2009" and that seemed to be the general consensus at Television Without Pity. I hate these 8-10 month breaks between seasons for this show. It drives me crazy.

I just keep repeating my mantra: you don't kill your second billed actor and only realistic shot of an emmy nomination before the second half of the season. Especially when you're going on an extended hiatus...you just don't. right???

Anonymous, I just don't know with this show. The pessimist in me thinks it's just going to be one-legged Gaeta stumping his way off an empty Galactica into Earth's Welcome Center (Epcot, of course) by the end of this show.

I'm gonna stay positive though and think happy thoughts. Besides after nearly having Roslin die so many times and then showing what they did in Friday's episode, it seems like too much to off the character again. Right?

Happy thoughts, happy thoughts!!

And on a related note, if someone doesn't win an Emmy for this show, there is simply no TV justice.

I just wanted to cry when Roslin and Adama hugged at the end of the episode. I placed myself carefully behind my boyfriend so he won't see my stupid happy grin.

(feel free to edit out of comment) Fascinating read here: http://iamneurotic.com/page/1
list of people's self-submitted neurosis.

I think the long break is at least partially due to the writers' strike having forced them to shut down production halfway through. The SAG strike isn't going to help much either.

I had a thought the other day, and I don't even watch BSG - wouldn't it be awesome if Bill Adama is the last Cylon?!

:)

Nightfall, I was right there with you. That last scene in the hospital totally killed me, too. EJO was great.

And thanks for that link. That's a very cool site. (I left it in so other people could check it out, too.)

Tgrfan, I've been wondering for a while about the Admiral. It sure would make things weird, wouldn't it?

Would that make Lee a hybrid?

yeah. can't be the admiral. i'm beginning to think it's the doctor. however else could he have missed identifying the cylons all this time?

and epcot center? wow. most of the gossip i've been reading is not WHERE the galactica will land on earth, but WHEN. like 2000-3 years ago.

i'm betting adama and roslin will get a nice hacienda on crete circa 500 bc.

the 12 colonies survivors will be atlantis.
