Toys, toys and lots of toys!

I want it! I want it! I want it! Yes, I totally want this new Star Trek bridge replica. And it only costs $25! It's a total bargain. I can't wait to buy my own Simon Pegg and my own John Cho and, well, what I do after that really isn't important.

Did you have a favorite genre toy when you were a kid? My pride and joy was my Millenium Falcon and the Tauntaun that I could cram Han Solo into as he ventured off to heroically let Luke die quietly on Hoth. (I had my own version of "Empire Strikes Back.") I also loved my Tie-Fighter, but, in all honesty, the family dog kept piddling on it, thereby drastically reducing its resale value...and fun value, actually. I was partial, too, to my Breyer plastic horses although I wonder now if I just liked their chemical smell because I seem to remember spending a lot more time sniffing them than racing them. Horse huffing could explain a lot about my current mental capacities, now that I think about it.

So what toys did you love?

I was SOO into Breyer horses too. My family would buy them for me as "collector's items" and made me keep them all in the box and only let me play with my crappy cheap toy horses.

One night after I had accumulated a huge amount of trapped Breyer horses I woke up in the middle of the night and liberated them all from the boxes... I never looked back! haha

I was in love with my she-ra dolls, and even had the pink she-ra castle. My favorite was this purple girl who could cast spells. Sadly, my mom took me to a new babysitter who turned out to be a fundamentalist. When I started casting spells on the rest of toy kingdom the babysitter told me it was the devil's work and stuck me in time out. I was so freaked out, that my enthusiasm for Eternia waned.

I had a few Barbies, but my favorite doll was this Jem doll who I think said things, and her earrings would light up when you pushed a button on her back. She was a lot bigger than the Barbies, but I would try to fit her into the Barbie clothes anyway, and it never quite worked. Also, she would stand in for Ken because she was the most manly-looking, and I never owned a Ken doll.

Yeah, I was ahead of my time.

I also had a lot of My Little Ponies and a basket thing that you put Play-doh in and it would make crazy flowers. Man, I never realised how girly I was... I always thought of myself as a tomboy.

Ah, memories! I also loved My Little Pony and She-Ra for playing with my girlfriends. My mom bought me lots of girly toys. But I grew up with two brothers who were way into GI Joe. When I played with them, we would make my dollhouse the Joe's headquarters and had them repel off the roof. One year for Christmas, my brothers pooled their allowance and bought me Jinx, the red ninja Joe. I was so happy!

I had a toy parakeet that walked up walls. It was a very long time ago. One of my kids had something odd called Monster Face....this hideous plastic face that you could somehow inject with snot like material which would then come out it's nose. Pretty cool stuff.

My favorite toy.. that I always wanted, but never had, until I made that correction in adulthood was the Death Star play set from the first Star Wars film... complete with working trash compactor (and accompanying trash & monster), elevator, retracting bridge, etc... I still get it out and play with it when no when is around (although the foam trash has rotted away over the years).

Legos. Definitely, Legos.

I had a whole village that I freestyle built out of Legos, complete with a gas station and McDonald's and all the other necessities of life.

I was totally into She-Ra and Barbies back in the day, but the love that lingered the longest was definitely legos! We had this plastic picnic basket full of primary-colored legos, and I would build little houses for the lego people. Legos have gotten a lot more complicated since then, but I really appreciate the simple building blocks that can become anything! I kind of wish I had some right now!

I love reading about everyone's childhood toys. Amanda, I applaud you for the Breyer liberation. Those horses deserved to run free!

How could I have missed out on this She-ra craze, though? I don't think I've ever heard of them.

And J., I totally coveted that Death Star toy when I was a kid, too. I seem to recall feeling that my life would be complete if only I could get my hands on one of those. I never did, though...probably explains a lot about my adult issues, though. :)

Never heard of She-ra, whaaaaaaaa?

(I love how it's so obvious now that they just gender-bended He-man and all of his friends. It's not really copyright infringement, being as it is by the same people, but it's close...)

I was waaaay into Legos, plus a sizeable collection of stuffed animals that I kept organized by species. My sister is really into Breyers, she has well over thirty of them I think.
