Farewell, Charles...

In honor of ascot-wearer, game show panelist and raconteur Charles Nelson Reilly, who passed away today, I give you the final scene of The X-Files' "Jose Chung's From Outer Space." It was one of Charles' finest performances and one of the funniest damn episodes of the series -- something that seems only fitting. Beware the Lava Men...

"Jose Chung" was one of my absolute favorite X-Files eps (right there with "Bad Blood"), and CNR was just perfect for the role. (Despite my youth being warped because my mom always wanted to watch "Match Game"). A fitting tribute! Rest in peace, Charles.

It was one of my favorites too, and I loved CNR in it. I saw him talk live once about being on the show, and he wore slippers for his presentation. It made him even more endearing.

And woo hoo on Bad Blood. Mulder singing Shaft was beautiful.

As for "Bad Blood," the whole "Rashomon" storyline is one that every series trots out eventually (usually to good effect) but it's rarely been done better than on this one. All the details, including Mulder's over the top conspiracies, Scully's humorlessness and even Luke Wilson's teeth, were done perfectly. And you're right -- Shaft was awesome. ("shut yo mouth...")

And I had forgotten that the "Men in Black" in "Jose Chung" were Jesse Ventura and Alex Trebek!

I loved his humour so much! Seems only the geekiest among us posted about CNR...
